Actual score 15 out of 5I seem to be in the minority in disliking this story so please bare that in mind before dismissing this book out of hand However that said it wasn t for me It was just far too typical of the genre An overtly melodramatic romance about two star crossed lovers and their struggles and sacrifices to remain together The twists of the story were fairly obvious from the opening chapters even if the cover hadn t given the game away who could Lucas Belial the laird of an estate called Morningstar possibly beThe pacing of the story was very uneven Little happens over the first three hundred pages and the eventual climax felt rushed While the opening of the story offered opportunity for an interesting mystery to develop the nature of the Revenants the conclusion was predictable and I saw it coming long before the protagonist While Bryant s attempt to reinvent angel lore was interesting I felt that it didn t uite do enough to make itself uniue and distance itself from Christianity the result being somewhat muddled in placesThe characters of the story were pretty typical of a YA paranormal romance novel Sophie is a cookie cutter heroine the type who is bookish and can t see her own worth but at the same time is desired by everyone and possessing of some mysterious power While there is thankfully no real love triangle she is still hounded by the two local pretty boys charismatic ladies man Sam and dark brooding Lucas Guess which one she picksAll in all this book didn t irritate me like some of its genre have in the past but it was pretty bland and forgettable I don t think I ll be reading its seuel in a hurry
